This skeleton of Ischyromys is an ancestor of nowadays squirrels. It was found in oligocene sediments of White River, South Dakota, USA. This fossil is about 30 mio. years old.
The animal measures about 17 cm. Preserved are the skull (with teeth), the spine (backbones) and the pelvic area with some legbones. The matrix is original, it was not broken but several cracks have been stabilized with superglue. It measures about 17 x 12 x 7 cm.
