This find from 1989 has not yet been described in detail yet. It comes from a cave of "Sterkfontein" in South Africa.
"Sterkfontein" is the name of a number of karst caves near the town of Krugersdorp in Johannesburg. These caves are of particular interest because there a great number of fossil hominids have been found. 1999 Sterkfontein was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and has since been referred to as the "cradle of humanity". Since about 1890, the caves are explored and gave far more than 500 hominid free - which makes this reference to the most interesting location in the world for humanoid fossils.
This skull has an unusually large brain volume of Australopithecus - more than 600 cubic centimeters. This shows the range of variation between the hominids from Sterkfontein.
By the way the skull of Mrs Ples also comes from this locality (we offfer it as well).
The cast is made of epoxy resin and is hand-colored. The color of the reproduction may be different from those of the images slightly. Due to the handcraft, each piece is unique.
