Products description

This "spiked shark" Diplacanthus spec. comes from the peninsula of Scotland (this piece was not found at the Orkney Islands. Nowadays the site is inaccessible as it is flooded by the sea).

Diplacanthus is an extinct fish belonging to the Acanthodians. These fishes had a toothless mouth and were probably eating algae at the bottom, of the sea.

The fossil dates back to the devonian age - it is about 350 million years old.

This specimen is exceptionally well preserved, it beatifully shows the nubby skin structure and the typical fin spines.

The fish measures about 9 cm in length. The stone is original and unbroken, it measures about 14,5 x 9,5 cm.

In this perfect condition these fishes are rarely offered for sale - don't miss this opportunity!
