This "tusk" of Hippopothamus antiquus comes from the Pleistocene sediments of
Lampertheim in Germany.
The fossil is unbroken and measures about 17 cm (maximum measurable distance).
The diameter of the piece is about 4.5 cm. It has been conserved and is now stable
and massive.
Hippopotamus fossils are rarities and much sought after by collectors and museums.
