This humerus (upper arm bone) from the cave lion Panthera leo spelaea comes from the Pleistocene sediments of
Bensheim in Germany.
The bone is unbroken, it is about 26 cm long.
The fossil has been thinly varnished, no additions or other manipulations.
Cave lions are extinct big cats and their remains are extremely rare finds in gravel pits.
Fossils of this rare species are highly sought after by collectors and museums all over
the world.
