This rare armored Placoderm Microbrachius dicki comes from the middle Devon of the Orkney Islands of Scotland. The age of this fossil is around 400 million years.
The fish (femaile individual) is completely preserved, it measures about 2,5 cm. This is a positiv-negative fossil - two slabs!
The stones are unbroken! They measure about 13 x 9 cm.
Unbroken pieces are rare because these wafer-thin fossils are usually only found in transverse fractures.
No manipulations at all - everything original!
Interesting: At this species it was possible for the first time in evolution history to prove a propagation by copulation. The male individuals even had two copulation organs - one on each side of the body. The piece offered here is a female individual.
