This seahorse Hipoocampus ramolusus comes from lower Pliozaen layers of the Marecchia River in Italy.
It is about 5 million years old.
The animal is complete and the preservation is excellent. Check out the great close-ups.
The seahorse is quite large, the largest measurable distance at the fossil is 11 cm (it is slightly
longer when stretched out). It sits nicely centered on unbroken matrix (19.5 x 14.5 cm x 1 cm).
Honest piece - no varnish or paint, everything is natural - no manipulations whatsoever! Only a small
piece (upper left corner) of the stone was glued on to enhance the overall look of the exhibit;
NOTHING was manipulated on the fossil itself.
Fossils like this are hard to come by. It is an old find.
The preservation of this fossil is simply fantastic! A true museum piece!
