This tooth of a "Forest Elephant" was found in the pleistocene sediments (gravel pits) of Mannheim, Germany.

It is a tooth from the left lower jaw.

The fossil measures about 28 x 20 x 10 cm. It is heavily mineralized, its weight is about 5 kilograms.

This tooth comes from the nowadyas extinct "Elephas antiquus" formely known as "Palaeoloxodon antiquus". This animal lived in the european forests during the middle and upper pleistocene.

These kind of fossils are much rarer than those of the whooly mammoth.
