This is the fossil jaw of a pterosaur. The piece comes from the famous limestone from Eichstaett near Solnhofen in Bavaria/Germany. The Eichstaett sediments come from the Upper Jurassic (Malm) and are around 140 million years old. Fossils of reptiles from the Solnhofen area are top rarities. In particular the very rare finds of flying reptile fossils are very popular and higly sought after by museums and collectors. The piece offered here comes from an old collection; it was already depicted in the 1980s in the treatise "Fossiien aus dem Solnhofener Schiefer" by Jürgen Schmitt (see pictures). The jaw measures about 8.5 cm and beautifully shows a lot of teeth. Unusual: Both sides of the fossil (lying and hanging plates) are offered here, so you get two stones. One of the slabs was once broken and has been glued professionally, the other slab is unbroken. The stones measure approximately 23 x 22 x 0.7 cm. Honest piece - no manipulations at all!! Pterosaur fossils from the German limestone are very seldom offered for sale; those are finds usually go ???????straight to museums or private collections. ???????Don't miss this rare opportunity!
